Shaffer, 80, Somerset RD 2, went to be with his Lord Feb. 17, 1989. He died at Memorial Hospital, Johnstown. Born Sept. 23, 1908, at Jenner Crossroads, son of George W. and Catherine (Coleman) Shaffer. Preceded in death by parents. Survived by wife, the former Bertha R. Miller, and these children: Elaine, wife of George E. Mason, Davidsville; John E., married to Marjorie Sayers, Somerset RD 2; Patricia, wife of Edward Platt, Shanksville; also nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Brother of Orphabell, wife of Merle Shirey, Jennerstown. He was a life member of Zion Hoffman Lutheran Church. He was owner and operator of Shaffer's Radio and TV from 1945 to 1960. He was a social member of Somerset VFW and various sportsmen's organizations, and was a life member of the National Rifle Association. Death breaks a marriage union of 62 years. Family receiving friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the George E. Mason Funeral Home, Davidsville. Viewing at Zion Hoffman Lutheran Church 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Monday, when service will be held with the Revs. Richard Schlak and Gregory Pile officiating. Interment, Jenner Crossroads Cemetery.
