Born April 21, 1911, in Shade Township, Somerset County. Son of Frank and Emma (Custer) Shaffer. Preceded in death by parents; stepmother, Edna (Penrod) Weaver, and wife, Ethel Johns, who died Aug. 1, 1994; daughter, Nancy Barnes; granddaughter Joleen; sisters, Sylva and Mildred; brothers, Foster and Grant; stepbrothers, Elbert and Carmen, and sister, Lucille. Survived by son, Fred, married to the former Nina Fish, Hollidaysburg; daughter, Wanda, wife of Larry Mitchell, Johnstown RD 4; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Steward of Schellsburg; stepsister, Mildred Rummel, Windber; sister-in-law, Goldie Shaffer of Hooversville. Member of Scalp Level Church of the Brethren, Tatman Run Hunting Club, Antique Automobile Club of America, Johnstown Flood city Antique Auto Club, Lincoln Zephyr Owners Club. Former owner-operator of Shaffer's Slaughter Shop. Retired farmer and Nationwide Insurance agent with 39 years of service. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at George E. Mason Funeral Home Inc., Davidsville, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday with Rev.
