  Helen M. (Kaufman) Shaffer, 88, Blacks Hill Road, Jenner Township, died Aug. 5,
  2005, at Siemon Lakeview Manor Estate. Born Oct. 8, 1916, in Conemaugh Township,
  Somerset County, daughter of Henry and Dulcie (Shaffer) Kaufman. Preceded in
  death by parents; husband, Richard R. Sr., Aug. 11, 1987; son, Richard R. Jr.,
  May 5, 1956; infant brother, John Henry Kaufman and sister, Kathryn "Tootie"
  Garland, Feb. 13, 1999. Survived by sister, Mary, widow of Richard Unger,
  Conemaugh Township; nieces, Alice, married to Peter Phillips; Kathy, widow of
  Clyde Bailey; Daunice, married to Paul Geiser; Marilyn, widow of Vincent Bunch;
  nephew, John Unger, married to Sue Stutzman; great-niece and close neighbor,
  Janice Bunch and several other great-nieces and great-nephews. Graduate of
  Ferndale High School. Faithful member of Hopewell United Methodist Church and
  the church choir for many years. Formerly was a lay speaker for the United
  Methodist Church and president of the United Methodist Women's Organizations.
  Had been active in several community organizations. Loved gardening, reading
  and writing poetry and inspirational stories. Avid cat lover. Resident of
  Siemon's since July 8, 2005. Viewing from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at
  Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Allegheny Street, Boswell. Service
  at 11 a.m. Monday at Hopewell church. The Rev. Wilma G. Horner officiating.
  Interment, Thomas Mennonite Cemetery, Thomas Mills. No viewing at the church.
