Shaffer, 88, of Hollsopple RD 2, formerly of Boswell RD 1, died Aug. 22, 1983, at Johnstown's Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 7, 1894, in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County, son of Henry and Lucy (Hershberger) Shaffer. Preceded in death by parents; wife, the former Annie C. Gindlesperger, who died Jan. 3, 1983; an infant sister, Edith; sister, Mary Eppley; and brothers, Charles, Frank and Harry. Survived by daughter, Irene, widow of Chester Thomas; two grandchildren, Shirley Verna and Jack Thomas, all of Hollsopple RD 2; and four great-grandchildren, Beth (Verna) Wallace, Scott Verna, and Rick and Bryan Thomas. Brother of Florence Alwine, Arbutus Manor, Johnstown; Robert R., Boswell RD 1; Myrtle Lawson, Detroit, Mich.; James M., Johnstown RD 8; Cyrus A., East Liverpool, Ohio; and Grace Ahlgrim, Westland, Mich. A long-time member of the Jennerstown United Methodist Church. Retired Jenner Township farmer. Friends will be received from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday and until noon Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home, 409 Main St., Boswell, when body will be removed to Jennerstown United Methodist Church for viewing from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. with the Rev.
