Shaffer, 70, Buckstown, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 25, 2008. Born April 12, 1937, in Johnstown, son of Earl and G. Verdean Shaffer. Preceded in death by parents; stepmother, Theresa (Donahue) Shaffer; brother, Daniel J. Shaffer; sister-in-law, Vivian Shaffer; also in-laws, Walter and Mary Zeglin. Survived by wife of 28 years, Ann Marie (Zeglin) Shaffer; and these children, Christy L. Shaffer, Delaware; Serena, wife of Brian Keim, Berlin; Vaughn Earl Shaffer and Megan Shelleby, Hooversville; and Kimberly Ann, wife of Bradley Dean Russian, Buckstown; and grandchildren, Garrett and Madisyn. Brother of Jack Shaffer, Stoystown; and also sister-in-law, Judy Shaffer, wife of the late Daniel "Cork" Shaffer, Hooversville. Also survived by other brothers and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. And special friends, Homer, Jim, Al and David. A 1955 graduate of the former Forbes High School, Kantner, and also graduated from Grove City College and Valley Forge Military Academy. Jan was a commanding officer at the National Guard Armory in Friedens, and was a longtime business man and proprietor of Shaffer's Sports Sales, Windber; J.D. Shaffer Agency, Buckstown, and Shaffer's Bottled Gas, Hooversville. Member and past president of Hooversville Lions Club, Stoystown American Legion, TPA, and lifetime member of AMA. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hooversville, where Jan previously served on the church council. Jan was an avid motorcycle enthusiast who is deeply loved and will be sadly missed by his family, friends and his dog, Sadie. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the William Kisiel Funeral Home, Graham Avenue and 11th Street, Windber, and where Lions service will be held at 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hooversville, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Krista Vingelis officiating. Interment POS of A Cemetery, Hooversville, with graveside military honors by Somerset County Honor Guard.
