Born April 21, 1918 in Somerset. Preceded in death by husband Fred B. Shaffer on Aug. 3, 1998. Survived by daughter, Constance Smith, Severna Park, Md.; three sons, Frederick Shaffer, Bowie, Md., Thomas Shaffer, Charlotte, N.C., Ronald Shaffer, Berea, Ky., and a sister, Ann Strobeck of Alexandia, Va. Also nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and lived in Florida for the last 20 years. She was an active member of Somerset Country Club and had a hole in one. She was Ladies Golf Champion numerous times. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Somerset. Arrangements by Trinity Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Florida. A native of Somerset, she was a resident of Winter Haven, Fla., for the last 16 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred B. Shaffer, a North Star School District retired teacher and a former Borough Council president. In 1963, Kitty was the first lady golfer at the Somerset Country Club to score a hole-in-one since the original hole-in-one for ladies was achieved in 1926.
