  Kathryn Cowher Shaffer, 83, of Winter Haven, Fla. died Feb. 6, 2002
  in Winter Haven, Fla.  Born April 21, 1918 in Somerset.  Preceded in
  death by husband Fred B. Shaffer on Aug. 3, 1998.  Survived by
  daughter, Constance Smith, Severna Park, Md.; three sons, Frederick
  Shaffer, Bowie, Md., Thomas Shaffer, Charlotte, N.C., Ronald Shaffer,
  Berea, Ky., and a sister, Ann Strobeck of Alexandia, Va.  Also nine
  grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  She was a homemaker and
  lived in Florida for the last 20 years.  She was an active member of
  Somerset Country Club and had a hole in one.  She was Ladies Golf
  Champion numerous times.  Member of Trinity Lutheran Church in
  Somerset.  Arrangements by Trinity Funeral Home and Cremation Center
  in Florida.

  SHAFFER
  
  Kathryn "Kitty" Cowher Shaffer's memorial service will be conducted
  at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at Trinity Lutheran Church Chapel.  A
  native of Somerset, she was a resident of Winter Haven, Fla., for the
  last 16 years.  She was preceded in death by her husband Fred B.
  Shaffer, a North Star School District retired teacher and a former
  Borough Council president.  In 1963, Kitty was the first lady golfer
  at the Somerset Country Club to score a hole-in-one since the
  original hole-in-one for ladies was achieved in 1926.  Twice she won
  the Ladies Club Championship.
