    Katie E. (Thomas) Shaffer, 85, Boswell RD 1, died unexpectedly Nov.
  19, 1995, at home.  Born July 12, 1910, in Jenner Township.  Daughter
  of Nelson and Ellen R. (Thomas) Thomas.  Preceded in death by
  parents; husband, Robert R., Sept. 25, 1986; sister, Dora May Thomas,
  1900, and brother Edgar L. Thomas, 1964.  Survived by these
  stepchildren: John Shaffer, married to Jane Perry, Falling Waters,
  W.Va.; Dorothy, wife of Donald Schmucker, Philadelphia, and Loretta,
  wife of Daniel Showalter, Waynesboro, Va.; three nephews: Robert
  Thomas, married to Carolyn Snyder, Laurel, Miss.; Donald Thomas,
  married to Doris Brown, Hollsopple RD 1, and Paul Thomas, Stafford,
  Va.; nine step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; eight
  grandnephews and grand-nieces, and numerous other relatives. 
  Lifelong loyal member of Thomas Mennonite Church, Thomas Mills, and
  served as church historian since 1966.  Also taught Sunday School for
  62 years and Summer Bible School for 43 terms.  Secretary for 15 years
  of the district W.M.S.C.  Employed for 23 years in several area
  garment factories and member of the ILGWU.  Friends received from 2-4
  and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and until noon Wednesday at the Hoffman Funeral
  Home, Allegheny Street, Boswell.  Viewing also from 1 p.m. until the
  time of service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Thomas Church, Pastors Homer
  Schrock, Donald Speigle and Aldus Wingard officiating.  Interment,
  church cemetery.
