Shaffer, 77, of Stoystown RD 2, died Nov. 29, 1975, at Windber Hospital. Born Sept. 11, 1898, in Shade Township, son of Harvey and Jennie (Herring) Shaffer. Preceded in death by parents, two sisters and four brothers. Survived by his widow, the former Grace M. Blough, and these children: Mrs. Ralph (Ruby) Berkebile of Stoystown RD 2; Clair of Quecreek; Melvin and Merle, both of Hollsopple RD 1; Floyd of Hooversville RD 1; Mrs. Paul (Rachel) Miller of Windber; Mrs. David (Eva) Manges of Central City; Mrs. Charles (Thelma) Tyler of Tuscon, Ariz.; Lloyd Jr. of Dover, Del.; and Ralph of Manasses [sic], Va.; also 35 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A brother of Alton and Harvey, both of Johnstown; Paul of Portage, Pa.; Mrs. Fern Watkins of Blough; Mrs. Gladys Croyle of Stoystown RD 1; Mrs. Donald (Hulda) Latta of Irwin; Mrs. William (Mary) Seese of Cleveland, Ohio; and Mrs. Cletis Lohr of Hooversville. He was a retired farmer and member and deacon of Sugar Grove Brethren Church, Blough. Family received friends Sunday evening and will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday (today) and until noon Tuesday at the Charles R. Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. The remains will be removed to the Sugar Grove Brethren Church to lie in state from 1 p.m. until services at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Elvin Holsopple officiating, assisted by the Rev. Boyd Lehman.
