Born Oct. 18, 1929 in Cairnbrook. Daughter of Frank Sylvester and Leora Mae (Koontz) Burkett Sr. Preceded in death by parents, brothers, Merle, Melvin and Edward Burkett. Survived by husband, Donald Edward Shaffer to whom she was married 57 years; children, Ronald E. Shaffer married to the former Gayle Smith of Tacoma, Wash.; Gary W. Shaffer of Somerset; David E. Shaffer married to the former Lillian Mangin-Wilcox of Somerset, and Mrs. Kent E. (Donna) Lalley of Somerset; eight grandchildren; Rhonda Kimmel, Vickie Shaulis, Shelly Shaffer, Rodonna Shaffer, Ron Shaffer II, Jonathan Shaffer, Jessica Shaffer, Katelyn Shaffer, Alexander Lalley, and Janelle Lalley; eight great-grandchildren, Melissa, Kelly, Kimberly and Mary Beth Kimmel; Zachary Shaulis, Ron Shaffer III, Jake Shaffer, and Hailey Kelly Shaffer. Sister of Katherine Burkett of Somerset, Dorothy Cline of Somerset, James Burkett and wife Ruthellene of Somerset, Mrs. John (Shirley) Bishop of Somerset; Frank S. Burkett and wife Barbara of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mrs. Leora Peters of Virginia Beach, Va., and sister-in-law Delores Burkett of Somerset. She was the co-owner/operator of Somerset Mobile Home Sales. Member of Somerset Alliance Church and attended Berlin Alliance Church, Somerset Cardiac Club, Water Aerobics at Linda's and Somerset County Home Builders. She enjoyed many excursions around the world, putting photo albums together, making blankets. She loved her friends and family and especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her Savior Jesus Christ. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home. Service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Somerset Alliance Church, with the Rev. Sherman H. Berkey officiating. No viewing at the church. Interment, St. John's Cemetery.
