    Melvin J. Shaffer, 55, Kintnersville, Pa., formerly of Somerset,
  died Sept. 6, 1994, at his home.  Born Oct. 27, 1938, in Somerset. 
  Son of Elma (Day) Shaffer Miller of Somerset.  Preceded in death by
  his father, Garwood Shaffer.  Survived by his wife, the former Elaine
  Underwood; a son, James Shaffer of Lawrenceville, N.J., and a
  daughter, Megan E. at home.  Brother of Geraldine Gioia of Savanna
  [sic], Ga.  He was a insurance agent in Kintnersville and a U.S. Navy
  veteran.  Graduate of Somerset High School.  Funeral service was held
  at Palisades Community Bible Church, Revere.
