Shaffer, 98, Virginia Beach, Va. formerly of Jennerstown, died Oct. 1, 2003 at Marian Manor Retirement Community. Born Feb. 12, 1905, in Jenner Township, daughter of James A.G. and Annie (Barnett) Shaffer. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Emily Dietz and Anna Maurer and nephew, John H. Maurer. Survived by nephew, James W. Dietz, married to Virginia Beltz, Virginia Beach, Va.; nephew John's wife, Sarah Boney, Stanton, Va.; great-nieces, Laura Devonmille and Karen Taylor, both of Winston-Salem, N.C. Graduate of Somerset High School and Indiana (Pa.) Normal School. Special education teacher and elementary education teach in former JBJ Joint School District having taught in Jenner Crossroads for most of her career. Member of Laurel Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jennerstown where she formerly had been active. Also a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Allegheny Street, Boswell, where a Delta Kappa Gamma Society memorial service will be held 7:30 p.m. Friday. Viewing also from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Laurel Trinity Church, the Rev. Jacquelyn M. Ahern officiating. Interment Lutheran Cemetery, Jennerstown.
