  Richard R. Shaffer Sr., 76, Boswell RD 3, D.O.A. evening of Aug. 11,
  1987, at Somerset Community Hospital.  Born Feb. 7, 1911, Jenner
  Township, son of Russell E. and Marian (Friedline) Shaffer.  Preceded
  in death by parents; son, Richard R. Jr, 1956; brother, Edward; and
  two sisters, Leora Bowers and Mabel Myers.  Survived by wife, former
  Helen Kaufman.  Active member of Hopewell United Methodist Church,
  also member of U.S.W.A. and Jenner Community Sportsmen's Club. 
  Retired employee of Bethlehem Steel, Johnstown, with 34 years
  service.  Friends received from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 2-4, 7-9 p.m.
  Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell.  Service at 10
  a.m. Saturday at Hopewell Church, where body will lie in state from 9
  a.m. until time of service, the Rev. Warren C. Cravotta officiating. 
  Interment, Thomas Mennonite Cemetery.  No viewing at church.
