  SUE ALICE SHAFFER
  
    Sue Alice Shaffer, 81, Fort Hill Avenue, died July 5, 1980 in
  Cumberland, Md., Convalescent Center.
    She was a native of Cumberland, and was a daughter of the late
  Harry Merkle and Lydia (Suder) Merkle.  Her husband, Howard R.
  Shaffer, preceded her in death.
    She was a member of the First United Church of Christ and Woodmen
  of the World Grove 6011.
    She is survived by three sons, George Shaffer, Oakland, Md.; Howard
  R. Shaffer II and Robert Shaffer, both of Hyndman; five daughters,
  Mrs. Willard Auvil, with whom she resided; Mrs. Jean Whitacre,
  Ridgeley, Mrs. Maxine Keel, Buffalo Mills; Mrs. Virginia Snyder and
  Mrs. Charlotte Lehr, both of Hyndman; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Fisher,
  Duarke, Calif.; Mrs. Madlyn Deremer, RD 1, Hyndman; 22 grandchildren
  and 27 great-grandchildren.
    Friends were received at the Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman.
    Services were conducted in the funeral home by the Rev. James Myers
  and the Rev. A. L. Lepley.  Interment will be in Hyndman Cemetery.
