  SHAFFER
  
    Vernon B. Shaffer, 70 of Sipesville, died April 24, 1995, at
  Somerset Hospital.  Born June 3, 1924, in Falls Creek, Pa., son of
  the late Martin and Maggie (Murry) Shaffer.  Preceded in death by
  first wife, the former Ida Virginia Hinderlighter; sister, Bernice
  Thompson, and brothers:  Merlin, Paul, Robert and Fred.  Survived by
  second wife, the former Katherine Simms, and the following
  children:  James Shaffer of Boston, Mass.; Barbara Southerland of
  North Tonawanda, N.Y.; Mrs. Doug (Joan) Andrews of Sipesville; a
  stepson, Frederick Simms of Lockport, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren, 14
  great-grandchildren and sisters:  Evelyn Suikowski of Erie and Abbie
  Buskart of DuBois.  A retired millwright for Durez Plastics of North
  Tonawanda, N.Y.  U.S. Army veteran of World War II.  Prisoner of
  war.  Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday
  at Wattengel Funeral Home, Inc. of North Tonawanda, N.Y., where
  funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday.  Interment in
  the Arcasia Cemetery of North Tonawanda.  Wilbur D. Miller Funeral
  Home in charge of local arrangements.
