Shaffer, 89, of South Center Avenue, Somerset, died June 3, 1974, in Somerset Community Hospital. Born Feb. 16, 1885, in Quemahoning Township, a son of Henry and Martha (Brubaker) Shaffer. Preceded in death by wife, Marion Zimmerman Shaffer, in 1964; four brothers and three sisters. Survived by these children: Mrs. Alma Halverson, Somerset; Frieda, wife of Frank Straatemeier, San Jose, Calif.; and Charles, Lynchburg, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. These brothers and sisters: Jack, Cloyd, and Mrs. Ada Fulton, all of Stoystown; Mrs. Vera Lohr, Johnstown. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, Somerset; and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Warehousemen, Chauffeurs and Helpers, Local 249, Pittsburgh. For many years he was a partner in Shaffer and Shank Moving and Transfer in Somerset. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, Where service will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., the Rev. Richard H. Shellenberger officiating. Interment, Husband Cemetery. Somerset Bulletin, June 4, 1974 [S1038]
