  WILLIAM S. SHAFFER
  
    William S. Shaffer, 72, Somerset, died June 7, 1980, in Somerset
  Community Hospital.
    He was born Aug. 18, 1907, in Somerset Township, son of the late
  Michael and Anna (Darr) Shaffer.  He was preceded in death by four
  brothers.  He is survived by wife, the former Margaret B. Berkey;
  children:  Donald, Somerset RD 6; Lee Ann, wife of Charles Hommel,
  Pittsburgh; W. Allen, Norfolk, Va.; Linda, wife of Norman Paul,
  Pittsburgh; 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; brothers and
  sisters:  George, Somerset RD 2; Mrs. Edith Barnhart, Millersburg;
  Mrs. Horace (Mary) Sheavly, Berlin; Mrs. Alma Mull, Fair Oaks,
  California; Fred K. and Michael Eugene, both of Somerset RD 2.  He
  was a member and Elder Emeritus of St. Paul's United Church of
  Christ.  He owned and operated the Shaffer Block Works 1945-1970.  He
  was a former employee of H. W. Walker Co. and former member of
  Somerset Borough Council.
    Friends were received at Richard E. Hauger Funeral Home.  Services
  were conducted at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, the Rev.
  Richard Shellenberger officiating.  Interment, Edie Cemetery.
    Family requests that contributions be made to St. Paul's United
  Church of Christ.
