Shaffer Sr., 88, Boswell RD 1, died May 16, 1980, at Somerset Community Hospital. Born Feb. 3, 1892, in Jenner Township, son of Rufus C. and Florence (Griffith) Shaffer. Preceded in death by parents; wife, the former Mary B. Berkey, who died Dec. 25, 1978; and son-in-law, Leslie Rose, who died April 4, 1980. Survived by these children: Daryle, wife of Merle Bittner, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Paul, California; Margaret, wife of Richard Hemminger, William Jr., married to the former Joann Ribblett, and Robert, married to the former Jean Huster, all of Boswell RD 1; Helen, wife of the Rev. Max DeArmey, Hollsopple RD 2; Lois, wife of Robert Lohr, White Star Village, Jennerstown; Lee J., married to the former Geraldine Felix, and Florence, widow of Leslie Rose, both of Boswell RD 2; 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Brother of Mrs. Edna Berkey, Jennerstown. Life-long member of Hopewell United Methodist Church and was oldest present member. Army Veteran of WW I, one of the last WW I veterans in the Boswell Area. Lifelong prominent Jenner Township farmer. Friends will be received form 7-9 p.m. Saturday and until 9 p.m. Sunday at Hoffman Funeral Home, 227 Allegheny Street, Boswell, where service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, the Rev. Walter M. Willey.
