All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ JOHN HENRY SHANK John Henry Shank, born in Garrett County, Md., June 5, 1874, became a resident of Pennsylvania 42 years ago and died Sunday morning, July 4, 1943, at his home in Salisbury, at the age of 69 years and 29 days. His death was caused by coronary occlusion, a form of heart disease. He had also suffered from diabetes for some time, but was not confined to his bed and had been working in his garden and doing chores of various kinds about his home during the last few weeks preceding his death. He is survived by his wife, Lulu, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Hahn, for many years well-known residents of Elk Lick Township. He is also survived by a foster son, Harry Larue of Meyersdale, and by a sister, Mrs. T. H. Miller of Farmington, Fayette County. Mr. Shank was a resident of both Elk Lick Township and Salisbury borough during a large portion of his life, and during the best years of his life he worked in the coal mines of the Elk Lick region. Funeral services were conducted at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, Wednesday, at 2 p.m., by the pastor, Rev. Ira S. Monn. Burial was in the Salisbury I.O.O.F. Cemetery, under the direction of Stanley M. Thomas. Mr. Shank was a member of the Main Street Brethren Church of Meyersdale. Among those from outside of this community who attended the funeral of Mr. Shank, were Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hawn and daughter Edna of Akron, Ohio; Mrs. Thomas Miller of Farmington; Mr. and Mrs. James Sargent of Markleysburg; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Larue, of Meyersdale; Mrs. Elmer Deal of Keyser's Ridge, Md.; Miss Emma Deal of McHenry, Md.; Robert Hawn of Grindstone, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. Silas Turner of Avilton, Pa.
