Shapiro, 78, Latrobe, formerly of Somerset, died Thursday, June 21, 1990, in the Latrobe Area Hospital. Born April 26, 1912, in Monessen, a son of the late Max and Ida (Ress) Shapiro. Prior to his retirement, he was the owner and operator of the Lois Ann Clothing Shop in Somerset for 41 years. He was a member of the Beth-Israel Congregation of Latrobe, member of the B'Nai-Brith, former member and past president of the Somerset Kiwanis, former member of the Somerset Chamber of Commerce. Veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Dr. Sigmond and Leonard Shapiro. Surviving are his wife, Norma (Poster) Shapiro; one daughter, Mrs. Sylvester (Carol) Holmes, Crafton; a sister, Mrs. Frieda Snitzer Youngstown, Ohio; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Hartman-Graziano Funeral Home Inc., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, at which time services will be held in the funeral home chapel, with Rabbi Alvin Berkun officiating. Interment will follow in B'Nai Israel Cemetery, Hempfield Township. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or a charity of one's choice.
