Shaulis, 85, Acosta, died Jan. 5, 2005, at Somerset Hospital. Born Nov. 5, 1919, in Lincoln Township, he is the son of the late Frank G. and Cinda (Beck) Shaulis. Also preceded in death by sisters, Mary Shaulis and Ruth Fosbrink. Survived by his wife, Frances M. (Hoffman) Shaulis; daughter, Mrs. Ronald E. (Valorie) Long, Somerset; grandsons, Timothy E. Long, married to the former Carol Taylor, Eldersburg, Md.; and Jason C. Long, Somerset. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Member of Christ Casebeer Lutheran Church where he served on various council offices. Also member of VFW Post 554, Somerset Lodge 358 F&AM, Sipesville Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Fellowship and was also treasurer. Financial secretary for the Casebeer Cemetery Association for many years. A 1937 graduate of Somerset High School. Veteran of World War II serving in France, Luxembourg and Belgium. Member of Co. C, 702 Tank Battalion, 11th Tank Group, 3rd Army. Received two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star and the Silver Star. Received a battlefield promotion to 2nd lieutenant Retired as sales clerk for Sears in Johnstown. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, and from 1 p.m. to the time of service at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Christ Casebeer Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dennis Doebler officiating. Interment in Casebeer Cemetery with military rites by the Somerset County Honor Guard.
