Shaw, 76, who died in Long Beach, Calif., June 28, arrived in Meyersdale Saturday morning and was removed to the Johnson and Son Funeral Home, Berlin, where services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. D. S. Stephan, D.D., life-long friend of Mrs. Shaw, officiating. Private interment was made in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery Sunday evening. Mrs. Shaw was born in Frederick, Md., the daughter of Peter and Anna Young Shafer. At the age of five she moved with her parents to Middletown, Md., where she lived until 1903, when she came to Berlin, Pa., as the bride of the late Dr. William P. Shaw. The Shaws were prominent citizens of Berlin for many years, taking an active part in all civic and benevolent work of the community. Mrs. Shaw was talented in music and for 35 years was organist in the Reformed Church of Berlin. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Shaw continued to reside in Berlin until June 1946 when she disposed of her property and moved to Long Beach, Calif. Just a year ago she made an extended visit with friends in her home town. Mrs. Shaw is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert Berkey (Mary) and Miss Helen Shaw, both of Long Beach, and by one granddaughter, Susan Berkey; also by two sisters, Mrs. Eva L. Bansen and Mrs. Marie Downing, both of Chester, Pa. Memorial services for Mrs. Shaw were held in Mottell's Chapel, Long Beach, on Friday, July 1. Meyersdale Republican, July 14, 1949
