He was born Feb. 18, 1889 in Somerset County, the son of the late William and Rebecca (Kunkle) Shawley. He was a retired coal miner and timber man. He is survived by three sons: John, Arden and Robert, all of Champion RD 1; four daughters, Mrs. Anna R. Shaulis, Rockwood RD 2; Mrs. Maggie M. Dugan, Somerset RD 3; Mrs. Frances Stout, Gray; Mrs. Goldie N. Sleasman, Ligonier RD 3; 50 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and 26 great-great grandchildren. Friends were received at the Clyde Brooks Funeral Home, Inc. Rt. 711, Melcroft, where services were held with the Rev. David Huey. Interment, Mt. Nebo Cemetery. The Republic, May 21, 1981 [S1248]
