  GEORGE SHAWLEY
  
    George Robert Shawley, 77, of Bittinger, Md., died Monday, May 31,
  1993 at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland, Md.
    Born April 18, 1916 in Jerome, he was a son of the late Elmer and
  Hattie (Beals) Shawley.  Mr. Shawley was a dairy farmer, member of
  Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Bittinger and past president of the
  Grantsville Rotary Club.  An Army veteran of World War II, he was
  also a member of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion.
    Survivors include his wife, the former Evelyn Oester; one son,
  George Shawley III, Swanton, Md.; three daughters:  Patricia Cowser,
  Bethel Park; Karen Clevenger and Mary Schenk, both of Grantsville;
  one sister, Ethel Buckel of Bittinger and 12 grandchildren.
    Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville. 
  Services were conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday with Pastor
  Louise Knotts officiating.  Interment, Bittinger Cemetery.
