Sheffler, 79, Somerset, died May 16, 2005, at home. Born Sept. 27, 1925, in Quemahoning Township, son of Charles E. and Mary (Peterman) Sheffler. Preceded in death by parents; Jennie Shreffler, who helped raise him; brothers, Fred, Robert, William, Merle and Meredith Sheffler; sister, Tillie Cree; grandson, Stephen Padgett; and an infant granddaughter. Survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Evelyn Bowser; children, Judith, married to Stephen Padgett, Newburg, Md., and Kenneth Jr., Waldorf, Md.; grandchildren, Kristy, married to John Hardesty, and Cheryl, Denise, Tina, Bruce and Jeffrey Sheffler; sisters, Mae Brilhart, Erie, and Mae Lauer, Somerset. World War II Army veteran and a German prisoner of war. Retired from U.S. Botanic Gardens, Washington, D.C. Member of Somerset VFW and American Legion posts. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where a service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Gerald Myers officiating.
