Shepley Sr., 69, of Stoystown RD 1, died Jan. 20, 1989 at home. Born April 16, 1919 in Kantner, son of Charles and Florence (Morgan) Shepley. Preceded in death by parents, a son, a granddaughter and a brother. Survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Helen Gindlesperger, and these children: Charles, married to the former Betty Altmiller, Friedens RD 1; Mrs. Louis (Holly) Shroyer, Harold Jr., married to the former Jean Hahn; Donald, and James, married to the former Linda Johnston; all of Stoystown RD 1; 10 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Retired supervisor from Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. A member of Grace Lutheran Church, Stoystown, Somerset VFW, Stoystown American Legion, Windber Moose, DAV, Quemahoning Rod and Gun Club and various Somerset County Democratic clubs. Army veteran of World War II, having received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart during action in Europe. Served three terms as Somerset County Democratic chairman and two terms as Democratic state committeeman. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Rev. Walter J. Emswiler. Interment, Odd Fellows Cemetery, Stoystown. Memorials may be given to Somerset Community Hospital Hospice Program. Daily American, January 21, 1989 [S1315]
