Sheppard died Thursday evening, June 19, at 8 o'clock at his home, 230 Large Street. In the tonsorial business for 50 years, he, with two brothers, Reese B. and Theodore, owned and operated the Sheppard Brothers Barber Shop on Main Street. He was a son of David R. Sheppard,, a native of Baltimore and pioneer barber of Meyersdale, and Josephine (Purdy) Sheppard of Cumberland, and was born in Baltimore, October 14, 1879. He was unmarried. He is survived by three brothers - the two mentioned above, and Jonce, of Baltimore, and by four sisters - Misses Kate, Emma and Mary Jane, at home, and Mrs. W. R. Hurst, Washington, D.C. Friends were received at the Sheppard home until 3 p.m., Sunday, when services were conducted there by Rev. Stanley G. Schwind, pastor of St. Philips' Episcopal Church, Cumberland, which the Sheppard family attends. Interment was made in Union Cemetery, under direction of W. C. Price and Son.
