   Carl J. Shields, 83, Jerome, died March 30, 2008, at Somerset Hospital. Born Jan. 29,
  1925, in Boswell, the son of Carl C. "Jeff" and Katherine E. (Kennell) Shields. Preceded
  in death by parents; and wife of almost 48 years, the former Nellie I. Walker, on Oct. 9,
  1995. Survived by daughter, Beverly, married to William Desort, Davidsville; and son,
  Wayne, married to Susan Shroyer, Jerome; grandchildren, Brandon and Ben Desort; Amy Ott
  and Jennifer Moody; and great-grandchildren, Cassie Jo and Meagan Jo Ott, and Nick and
  Joe Moody. Brother of Evelyn, widow of Dean Reynolds, Florida; Robert, married to Euldean
  Reckner, Jerome; Nancy Lamb, and Jack Sr., married to Janet Linko, both of Boswell; Faye,
  widow of Cornell Donati, Windber; Janice, widow of Ernest Tasin, Boswell; Donna, married
  to Robert Dively, Mount Pleasant; Marian, Boswell; Richard and wife, Florida; Donald,
  married to Carol Blough, Fredericksburg, Va.; Linda, widow of Richard Cook, Boswell;
  Edward, married to Carol Wanko, Conemaugh Township; and David, State College. Also
  survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Navy veteran of World War II. Member of UMWA and
  Jerome Post 802, American Legion. Retired employee of the former Island Creek Coal Co.,
  Tire Hill. At Carl's request, there will be no visitation or viewing. Family and friends
  are invited to a graveside service 10 a.m. Wednesday at Jenner Crossroads Cemetery. The
  Rev. Clifford Ott officiating. Arrangements in charge of the Hoffman Funeral Homes.
