"Rock" Shima, 75, Windber, formerly of Central City, died Sept. 7, 2006. Born Dec. 27, 1930, the son of Andrew and Susan (Churney) Shima. Preceded in death by parents; daughters, Deborah and Andrea; brothers, John and Joseph; and stepfather, Andrew Krishak. Survived by wife, the former Lillian Napora; children, Cynthia (Terry) Kauffman, Andrew Jr. (Kimberly), Michael (Misty); grandchildren, Andree (Jim) Yock, Elizabeth (T.J.) Kauffman, Terence Kauffman, Melissa, Tyler and Julia Shima, Nicholas and Peyton Shima. Brother of Mary Galish, Ann (George) Krishak, Sue Bibby and Helen Bober. Also survived by stepsiblings of the Krishak family and a number of very dear in-laws of the Napora family. Rock is a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a former employee of Acme Markets, manager of Red Top (Thorofare) and a regional insurance representative before founding Top Hat Cleaners in 1968. Retiring in 2000, Rock became a court officer in the Somerset County courts. He served as president of Central City Borough Council, Shade Central City School Board and Sacred Heart Parish Council. Volunteered at Windber Hospice, Community Heritage Days and played "Father Christmas" for the Johnstown Ballets annual "Nutcracker" production. Rock had many loves in his life: flying, watching sports, especially football, but none were any dearer to him than Lillian and their family. Friends will be received 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Windber, where a wake service will be held Friday evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Central City. Committal, Richland Cemetery Mausoleum. Graveside military rites by Central City American Legion Post. Friends who wish may make contributions to Regional Hospice at Windber or Our Lady Queen of Angels Church in Rock's memory.
