Shinka, 80, formerly of Scalp Level, went to be with the Lord July 13, 2006. Born June 21, 1926, in Richland Township, daughter of Mike and Mary (Saszvay) Shinka. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Michael J. Shinka; and sisters, Julia Strelnik and Mary Janeczek. Survived by nieces and nephews, Mary Ann (Janeczek) Hendricks, N.J., Betty (Janeczek), Perrone, N.C., Michael J. Janeczek, Fla., Betty Ann (Strelnik) Bruner, Joseph Strelnik, Johanna Shinka, Calif., Rebecca Shinka, Nev., Cynthia Shinka, Wash., and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Retired cable line assigner for the former General Telephone Co. of Windber with 35 years service. Member of the former Saint Mary Roman Catholic Church, Windber, where Betty was a lector and was also a volunteer and Eugharistic Minister at Windber Hospital for 13 years. Member Third Order Carmelite and also member Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Windber, where funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Leonard E. Voytek officiating. Committal at Saint Mary Roman Catholic Cemetery, Windber. Friends received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the William Kisiel Funeral Home, Windber, where vigil for the deceased will be held. In lieu of flowers, family suggests Mass intentions in Betty's memory.
