She had been in ill health for some time but had been active until the early part of November when she was removed to the hospital. Mrs. Shipley was the daughter of the late Rebecca and Jacob Sterner of Upper Turkeyfoot Township, where she was born on March 8, 1873. She and the late Beeson Shipley were united in marriage Feb. 7, 1900 and have made Confluence their home continuously since that day. Mrs. Shipley was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in the different organizations. She was president of the Women's Bible Class and also teacher of the class until her recent illness. Mrs. Shipley had the proud record of having attended Sunday school for seven years without missing one Sunday. The Church and the community will feel her loss keenly. Mr. Shipley preceded her to the grave seventeen years ago. She is survived by the following children: Harvey Shipley, Connellsville; Mrs. Grace Ream, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. J. R. Menefee, Uniontown; Elmer Shipley, Somerset; Mrs. J. F. Haas, Dawson and Robert at home. Also she leaves two sisters, Mrs. Neely Koontz, Somerset, and Mrs. Amanda Knight of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada; also three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 6th, at the Humbert Funeral Home with Rev. J. S. Shannon in charge. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. Interment was made in the Baptist cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, December 10, 1942
