"Jack" Shipley, 71, of Berlin, died May 11, 1998, at Meyersdale Medical Center. Born Jan. 20, 1927, in Connellsville, he was a son of the late Charles and Mabel (Poorbaugh) Shipley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandson; brothers, Charles and Frank; and a sister, Sara Jane Maust. Mr. Shipley is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Edith Maust, and these children: William A., married to the former Janice Platt; Bonnie Erny; and Jeanne, married to Fred Leister, all of Berlin; and R. Wayne Jr., married to the former Cheryl Byers, Mount Pleasant. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Shipley was a brother of Donald, Glencoe; James, Butler, and Gail Eicher of Huston, Pa. He was retired from the Somerset office of the PA Job Service and was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin; the Somerset Lodge F & AM 358; AASR, Harrisburg; and the Altoona Shrine. He was also a member of the Berlin Lions Club, American Legion, Berlin Volunteer Fire Department, I.O.O.F. and the Last Man's Club. Family received friends Tuesday and Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Services were scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14 (today), at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin, with Rev. Melvin A. Kirk, Jr., officiating. Interment, I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Berlin.
