   Eugene T. Shippey, 85, Friedens, died July 4, 2008, at Church of the Brethren Home,
  Windber. Born Aug. 25, 1922, in Schellsburg, the son of Harvey and Martha (Kiper)
  Shippey. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Arthur, Floyd, Joseph, Edward and Elmer;
  and sister, Leona Bence. Survived by his wife of 66 years, the former Ila Custer;
  children, Dennis, married to the former Ann Marek, Ijamsville, Md.; Nancy Glessner,
  Friedens; Ken, married to the former Carol Ripple, Manheim; and Kirby, married to the
  former Agnes Bero, Central City; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a
  sister, Cleo Jodlowski, Michigan. He was a retired carpenter and a U.S. Army veteran of
  World War II, having received the Purple Heart. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8
  p.m. Sunday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where service will be held 11 a.m. Monday.
  The Rev. Randy Newell officiating. Interment McGregor Cemetery, Cairnbrook. Memorial
  contributions may be given to the Church of the Brethren Home, 277 Hoffman Ave., Windber,
  PA 15963.
