(Bence) Shippey, 86, of Center Street, Boswell, went peacefully to her eternal rest Feb. 13, 2002 at the Lutheran Home at Johnstown. Born on Oct. 3, 1915 in Napier Township, Bedford County. Daughter of James A. and Catherine (Miller) Bence. Preceded in death by parents, husband of 63 years, Arthur E., Oct. 13, 2000; granddaughter Felicia, Oct. 1, 1970; grandson Paul Critchfield Dec. 10, 2000; sisters, Lucille Bence and Mildred Swanson; brothers Edwin and James and two infant brothers. Survived by daughters Kathryn Critchfield and Sandra wife of Jacob Barkley, both of Boswell; son, Arthur Edward Shippey married to Laura Ludlow, Maumee, Ohio; and grandchildren William Critchfield and wife Becky, Elizabeth Critchfield, Polly (Shippey) Lowry, Matt and Elisha Shippey, Tim and Sarah Shippey, Lisa June, Leslie Herwig and Lee Barkley. Also survived by 16 great-grandchildren and special caregiver Linda Russian. Sister of Gene of Endfield, Conn., Ivan of Leola, William and wife Sue and Ray and wife Ethel, both of Stoneboro, and Blanche Phiel, Akron, Ohio. Member of the auxiliaries to the Boswell Volunteer Fire Department and Boswell Post 461 American Legion. Also a member and former president of the Johnstown Local ILGWU. Retired employee of the former Dorfman and Hoffman Garment Factory with 38 years service and also served as the union steward. Member of the former Silver Ray Rebekah Lodge for many years and volunteered at the Helping Hands Food Pantry. Lifelong Democrat. Friends received from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell, where service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Rev. Michael A. Dunlap officiating.
