Shirk, 70, of Davidsville, died Nov. 9, 1994, at home. Born July 16, 1924, in Berlin. Daughter of Earl and Mabel (Raab) Shultz. Preceded in death by parents and one brother, Earl R. Survived by husband, Jacob D. Shirk Jr.; one brother, Richard, Greenwood, S.C., and sister-in-law, Louise Shultz, Salem, Ore. Graduate of Millersville University with a BS degree in library science and MA degree in library science from West Virginia University. She was a librarian in Conemaugh Township High school for 20 1/2 years. Librarian for Greater Johnstown High School for 10 1/2 years until her retirement in 1977. Traveled to many foreign countries. Did volunteer work through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program at Hollsopple Community Center and Laurel View Village, Davidsville. Charter member of the Connumach Lioness Club. She was pianist for several years at Bethel United Methodist Church, Hollsopple, where she was a member. She was member of Somerset County Retired Teachers Association. Death breaks marriage union of 45 1/2 years. Family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at George E. Mason Funeral Home Inc., Davidsville, where Lioness memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethel UM Church, Hollsopple, where remains will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. until time of service, Rev. Thomas Michalko and Rev. Robert Blank officiating. Interment, Berlin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the memorial fund of Bethel UM Church, Hollsopple, or ACSC at Laurel View Village, Davidsville, or the Windber Hospice.
