  Mrs. Verle Elizabeth Shirk, 85, Friedens RD 2, died Nov. 18, 1980, at
  home.  Born Nov. 6, 1895, in New Enterprise, daughter of David and
  Malinda (Reffner) Shriner.  Preceded in death by parents, two
  brothers, one sister and one grandson.  Survived by husband, Jacob D.
  Shirk Sr., whom she married Feb. 25, 1920; and the following children:
  Jacob D. Jr., married to Helen Shultz, Davidsville; Mary F. Moore,
  Stoystown RD 1; Mrs. Roy H. (Ina) Miller, Hooversville RD 1; Mrs.
  Robert C. (Alma) Miller, Friedens RD 2; Mrs. Charles (Mae) Clark Jr.,
  Alhambra, Calif.; Blair I., married to Marguerite Dexter, Toms River,
  N.J.; Mrs. T.C. (Ruth) Pumphrey, Linthicum Heights, Md.; G. Jane
  Shirk, Stamford, Conn.; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren;
  one great-great-grandson.  Sister of: David W., Carlisle; Mrs.
  Richard (Luelle) Westley, Tyrone.  Member of Hooversville Church of
  the Brethren where she was a life-time deaconess.  Family will
  receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the
  Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown.  Remains will be removed to
  Hooversville Church of the Brethren to lie in state from noon until
  service at 1 p.m. Friday, the Rev. Harry W. Bassett assisted by the
  Rev. William H. Snyder.  Interment POS of A Cemetery, Hooversville.
