L. Shirley, who died Monday night at about 8:30. Mrs. Shirley was a sister of Mrs. Fulton N. Shipley of Meyersdale, and a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Leonard of Macon, Ga., and was born and reared in Meyersdale. Interment was made in the Poke Run Cemetery, Pittsburgh. Mr. and Mrs. Fulton N. Shipley attended the funeral. Mrs. Shirley's untimely death was a shock to her many friends in Meyersdale who highly esteemed her. Meyersdale Republican, October 15, 1931 ----- NELL REES LEONARD SHIRLEY Mrs. Nell Rees Leonard Shirley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Leonard, formerly of Meyersdale and now of Macon, Ga., was born Oct. 21, 1892, in Meyersdale. She was graduated from the Meyersdale High School in 1909 and from Wilson College at Chambersburg, Pa., in 1913. From 1913 to 1916 she taught school in New Cumberland, W.Va. On June 24th, 1916, she was married to Rome L. Shirley, then of Apollo, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Shirley went to housekeeping in Edgewood, Pa., where they had resided ever since. To this union were born two sons, Leonard, now aged 13, and David, 11. She died Monday, Oct. 12th, 1931. Funeral services were conducted at the family home on Wednesday, Oct. 14th, at 8 p.m. and interment was made Thursday morning in the Polk Run Cemetery, Pittsburgh. Mrs. Shirley is survived by her husband, her parents and her two sons; also a brother, E. D. Leonard, Jr., and a sister, Mrs. Fulton N. Shipley of Meyersdale. The services were conducted by Rev. Dr. Tom Pears, a Princeton classmate of Mr. Shirley, and now pastor of the Waverly Presbyterian Church of Edgewood, of which both Mr. and Mrs. Shirley were members. Mrs. Shirley had a magnetic personality that won for her a host of friends who mourn her passing. Meyersdale Republican, October 22, 1931
