Jack Shober, 67, Berlin RD 4, died Nov. 18, in Meyersdale Community Hospital. Born April 30, 1899, in Brothersvalley twp., he was a son of the late James Madison and Ada (Coleman) Shober. Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Engle; three children, Jack, Royal Oak, Mich.; Larry and Mrs. Leanne Calvert, both of Berlin; also one grandson. He was a brother of Miss Lucy Shober, Mrs. Etta Kendall, Mrs. Etha Landefeld, Mrs. Helen Ward, and Galen, all of Garrett RD 1; Mrs. Ivy Jeffrey and Drummond, both of Vineland, N. J.; and Mrs. Marie Cale*, Akron; also these stepsisters and step-brothers: Mrs. Mildred Mankamyer, Vineland, N. J.; Mrs. Verna Schrock, Meyersdale; Royal Knepper, Somerset RD; and Mrs. Lulu Walker, Meyersdale RD 2. He was preceded in death by seven sisters and brothers. One of the leading sheep breeders in the East, Shober was president of the Somerset County Sheep and Wool Growers; Association for many years, and was chairman of the Somerset County Soil and Water Conservation District. In competition throughout the state he has been awarded many blue ribbons and championships for showing his sheep, and most recently won acclaim at the Pennsylvania Livestock Show earlier this month in Harrisburg. Funeral service was held at Johnson and Son Funeral Home, Berlin, on Sunday afternoon, with Rev. Randall L. Heckman officiating.
