Born April 8, 1947 in Somerset, a son of Vernon Israel Shockey and Edna Lydia (Baker) Shockey-Bumbarger. Preceded in death by parents, a brother Jay Earl Shockey, sister Betty Shockey, and stepfather Ray Bumbarger. Survived by wife, the former Paulette Ruth Hostetler to whom he was married for 29 years and these children: Brenda E. Shockey, Chestertown, Md.; Martha A. Shockey, Kathy S. Shockey and Laura J. Shockey, all of Friedens. Brother of: Mrs. Edward (Dorothy) Schmucker of Ephrata; Mrs. Clyde (Ruth) Platt, Berlin; Mrs. Reid O. (Jean) Walker of Somerset; Roy H. Shockey, married to the former Flo Ann Claycomb of Friedens, and Mrs. H. Mark (Janet) Gulliver of Millville. Member of Somerset Alliance Church, 1965 graduate of Somerset High School, U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, driller for P.B.S. Coal Co. and self-employed farmer. Friends received from 7-9 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Somerset Alliance Church, Somerset, with the Rev. Walter Frankenberry officiating. Viewing at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.
