Born June 13, 1927, in Fairmont, W.Va., the son of the late Fred and Mary (Davis) Shockey. Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Pat (McKenzie) Shockey; one son, Thomas F. Shockey, Germantown, Md.; one grandson, Brian Shockey and wife, Jenny, Mount Airy, Md.; two granddaughters, Joanna Shockey and Maria Shockey, both of Germantown, Md.; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Shockey, Mount Airy, Md.; and his yellow lab and loyal companion, Toby II. He is also survived by four sisters, Dorothy Worthington, Carthage, Texas; Winifred Deal, Columbus, Ga.; Ruth Hetz and husband, Raymond, Cleveland, Ohio; and Clara Ross and husband, Richard, Parma, Ohio; one brother, Joseph Shockey and wife, Henrietta, Seven Hills, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; ex-wife and friend, Rose Mary Shockey, Frostburg; and one sister-in-law, Dolores McKenzie, Frostburg. John was retired from CSX Railroad as a teletape operator with 41 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of New Hope United Church of Christ, Meyersdale, the Transportation Communication International Union, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8826, Salisbury, American Legion Post 24, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1273, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 348 and BPO Elks Lodge 470, all of Frostburg. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday. His grandson, the Rev. Brian Shockey officiating. Interment will be in the White Oaks Cemetery, Meyersdale, where military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Farrady Post 24 American Legion Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Brian Shockey, Bobby Shockey, Gene Drees, Jim Dickel Jr., Mike Boost, Mark Garlitz, Larry Deal and Jerry Deal. Honorary Pallbearer will be Orville Miller. The family requests memorials be directed to his grandson's church, Poplar Springs Charge United Methodist Church, 2601 Jennings Chapel Road, Woodbine, Md. 20797.
