Shoemaker, 74, Somerset, died July 20, 1983, at his residence. He was born Jan. 29, 1909, in Meyersdale, son of the late Maurice G. and Norma (Moore) Shoemaker. He is survived by wife, the former Sarah Varner, and two children, Alvin V. Shoemaker of Chatham, N.J.; and Mrs. John R. (Sally) Kramer of Pittsburgh. Also survived by these grandchildren: Peter Varner, John P., Christopher L., Julie Sarah Shoemaker, J. Douglas, Matthew Alvin, Mark Andrew Kramer. Also survived by sister, Dorothy Shoemaker Barnett, of Somerset. He was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Somerset, and a past member of the board of directors of U.S. National Bank of Johnstown and served on its Somerset Advisory Board. For many years he was a member of the board of the Children's Aid Society. A past Worshipful Master of Masonic Lodge 358 F. & A.M. He was also the former owner of the Somerset Lumber Co. from 1943-1968. Friends were received at the Richard E. Hauger Funeral Home, where private services were held with the Rev. H. James Meyers officiating. Interment, Husband Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Children's Aid Society or Trinity Lutheran Church. The Republic, July 28, 1983 [S1440]
