All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ CLARA SHOEMAKER Miss Clara Shoemaker, 68, veteran retired school teacher, died at 10:30 o'clock Monday morning in the Somerset Community Hospital, where she had been a patient since Dec. 7. A daughter of Solomon D. and Sue (Long) Shoemaker, she was born in Bedford County and moved to Somerset County with her parents when she was only five years old. Miss Shoemaker graduated from the Somerset public schools and later from Drexel Institute in Philadelphia. Returning to Somerset County, she taught the Wellersburg, New Baltimore and Dividing Ridge Schools. Later she became a member of the faculty of the Somerset Borough schools and spent 40 years as a teacher in the grade and high schools. She retired five years ago. Miss Shoemaker was the last surviving member of her family. A sister, Veda, and two brothers, Maurice and George Shoemaker, are dead. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon by Rev. I. Hess Wagner, D.D., pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment in the Husband Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, April 8, 1943
