SHOPE Benjamin Franklin Shope, 86, died Thursday, August 18, at his home, 121 Olinger Street, Meyersdale. He was born in Center County, March 11, 1863, the son of William and Martha (Hinton) Shope. His wife, Laura Boubles Shope, died a number of years ago. He is survived by five sons - Merle G. of Addison, Ben F. Jr. of Meadville, Kenneth D. of Akron, O., E.C. of Akron, and W. Garfield of Meyersdale. The latter and his family live in the Shope home with Mr. Shope. Two other sons preceded him in death. He also leaves 11 grandchildren and five great- grandchildren, one sister, Hattie Zimmerman of Milesburg, Pa. Mr. Shope was employed by Shipley Hardware as a clerk for 35 years, retiring in 1935. Before coming to Meyersdale, he was employed at Watson, Md., by the Standard Oil Co. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Konhaus Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lloyd McKinley officiating. Interment in Union Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, August 25, 1949
