Born July 30, 1924, in Cumberland, Md.; son of late Faye E. and Emma Ruth (Yutzy) Short. Also preceded in death by sister, Patricia Sperry. Survived by wife, former Helen R. Fisher; three sons, Charles William Jr., George David, and Kenneth Allan, all of West Salisbury; four brothers, John Miami, Fla.; Samuel, Thomas Michael, and Robert, all of West Salisbury; also four grandchildren. Member of St. Paul (Wilhelm) United Church of Christ, Meyersdale Lodge No. 554, F&AM and Meyersdale Chapter, Salisbury American Legion and International Operating Engineers Union, Local No. 66, Pittsburgh. Life-member of Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department. Veteran of World War II. Friends will be received 7-9 p.m. Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Thomas Funeral Home, Salisbury. Masonic memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at funeral home. Service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, the Rev. Carl P. Mitchell and Rev. David E. Fetter officiating. Interment, St. Paul Cemetery. Body will lie in state in church one hour before service.
