Born May 30, 1932, in Johnstown, son of the late Benedict Otto and Ruth Helen (Williams) Short. Also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Zungali. Survived by his wife, the former Agnes Marqaurite Strittmatter, and these children: Mrs. Douglas G. (Carol) Clay, Somerset; Ms. Debbie Short, West Chester; Mrs. John K. (Betty Jane) Irvine, Downingtown; Benedict J. Short, married to the former Jodi Meyers, Berlin; Paul W. Short, married to the former Lori Fisher, Listie; Leo T. short, Robert F. Short, and David W. Short, all of Somerset; also 10 grandchildren. Brother of Paul J. Short, Patton; Mrs. Benton (Margaret Ann) Crisman, West Chester, and John "Jack" Short, Patton. He was a mechanic for Somerset Shirt and Pajama Company from 1967 to 1979 and for Somerset Mack Service 1979-1984. A truck driver for PennDOT from 1984 to his retirement in 1994. A 1951 graduate of Patton High School and attended Kansas State University. A veteran of U.S. Air Force, Korean War. Member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Somerset, and AFSCME Local 2125. Life member of Patton Volunteer Fire Company and Somerset Volunteer Fire Company, Somerset County Fireman's Association, American Legion Post 181, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1801, New Baltimore Sportsmen's Association and Jenner Rod and Gun Club. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where Somerset Volunteer Fire Department service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and wake service will be held at 8:45 p.m. Friday. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Msgr. Samuel J. Tomaselli, celebrant. Interment, St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Patton. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the U.S. Marine Corps.
