Showalter, 75, of Port Republic, Va., died June 26, 1976, in a Harrisonburg, Va., hospital. He was born Jan. 22, 1901, in Rockingham County, Va., a son of the late David H. and Margaret (Rodeffer) Showalter. On May 2, 1928, he married the former Glenna M. Crumpacker who died Dec. 5, 1975. The Rev. Showalter graduated from Daleville Academv [sic] in 1925 and from Bridgewater College in 1930. While at Daleville he was called to the ministry and entered Bethany Biblical Seminary in Chicago, Ill., in 1931. While at Bethany he studied in the field of temperance, writing and producing lectures in this field. A lecture he produced on slides, "A New Approach to Alcohol Education," has been widely used in 10 states. He served as pastor of the Sipesville Church of the Brethren for nine years. Surviving are one son Cecil O. Showalter Jr. of Stalunton [sic], Va.; a daughter Mrs. Gloria Ann Kimmel of Sharon; two brothers, the Rev. Russel Showalter of Bridgewater, Va. and Hobart Showalter of Fairfax, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Ressie Coleman of Orannnge [sic], Va.; three half-brothers: O. Stanley Showalter of Weyers Cave, Va.; H. Calvert Showalter of Marrietta, Pa.,; and Carl Showalter of Richmond, Va.; also, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Mill Creek Church of the Brethren near Port Republic, Va., with the Rev. S. Earl Mitchell and the Rev. Ned Crumpacker officiating.
