"Shorty" Showalter, 72, Windber, died Dec. 27, 1981, at Lee Hospital. He was born May 5, 1909, in Akron, Ohio, son of Clarence B. and Leora (Folk) Showalter. He was preceded in death by parents. He is survived by widow, former Thelma Dutton, and these children: Phyllis, wife of David L. Cook, Philadelphia; Clarence H., married to former Dorothy Ann Nemcik, Johnstown; Betty Lou, wife of Melvin Starnes, Falls Church, Va.; and Debra Jean, wife of William Hoffman, Manassas, Va.; also five grandsons and two great-grandchildren. He was a brother of James, Finzel, Md., and George, Cumberland, Md. He was a retired employee of transportation department, Bethlehem Steel Corp.; member of National Rifle Association; honorary member of Lower Cambria Local 2644, USWA; former member of Uniontown UMWA. Friends were received at the Shank-Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Windber, where services were conducted with the Rev. Millard Weaver officiating. Interment, Richland Cemetery.
