She was born on October 9, 1866 in North Bloomfield, Calif., a daughter of Henry and Jesse (Carter) Brandler. She is the widow of Alonzo H. Shumaker who died January 27, 1918. She was a member of Eastern Star Lodge, Naomi Chapter 12, Grafton, W.Va., for 40 years. She was a charter member and also the oldest member of the Jerome Evangelical Lutheran Church. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. J. Charlton Truex, Johnstown; Mrs. Vernon R. Van DiVender, Colver; and Myrtle B., Rhea L. and Aleda U. Shumaker, all at home. Robert Brandler, West Salisbury, also survives and a second brother Nicholas Brandler is deceased. Chapter 143, Eastern Star conducted services at the residence at 8 p.m. on Monday and church services were conducted in the Jerome Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2 with her pastor, the Rev. George A. Clark, officiating. Interment in the IOOF Cemetery, Salisbury, in charge of Mortician Lloyd G. Shank, Windber. Meyersdale Republican, November 4, 1948
