Born April 11, 1926, in Boynton, he is the son of the late Harrison William and Nellie Matilda (Dishong) Shumaker. He is preceded in death by his sister, Kay Sines. Surviving are his wife, Alberta J. (Garlitz) Shumaker; two sons, Wade R. Shumaker and wife, the former Jane Blume, Spruce Creek; John C. Shumaker Jr. and wife, the former Elizabeth Elliott, Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Carlene G. Shumaker, Berlin; two brothers, Frank P. Shumaker, Frostburg, Md.; Ronald K. Shumaker, Meyersdale; and two grandchildren, Morgan J. and Roland H. Shumaker. Mr. Shumaker was a member of Salisbury Church of the Brethren. He was retired after 26 years as an insurance agent for Prudential Insurance Co. and prior to this, he was employed as a cement finisher and heavy equipment operator for 17 years. Mr. Shumaker is a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific and American Theatres. He was a member of the Salisbury American Legion and VFW and the Salisbury Lions Club. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Newman Funeral Home Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Highway, Salisbury, where a service will be conducted in 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev.
