(Stephens) Shumaker of Meyersdale, died July 13, 2002 at her home. Born in New York City, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Mary K. (Lange) Stephens. Also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Fred H. Shumaker who died Aug. 9, 1996; a brother Alexander Stephens, Boca Raton, Fla.; and sister Mabel L. Hornbake, Ebensburg. Survived by four sons: Fred M. Shumaker, Bedford; Michael A. Shumaker, married to the former Mary S. Brocht, Meyersdale; Stephen H. Shumaker, married to the former Susie Romesburg, Johnstown; Philip D. Shumaker, married to the former Monique Hunkele, Irwin. Also six grandchildren: Michael II, Jennifer, Kristina, Laura, Katherine and Elizabeth; and two great-grandchildren: Isabella and Gracen Miller. A sister of: Paul A. Stephens, and Katherine Beal, both of Meyersdale and Gloria M. Ritchey, Everett. Lillian was a resident of Meyersdale since 1938 where her family purchased the Miller Department Store. She worked there until June 1965 when the building and contents were destroyed due to a fire in an apartment above the store. Then she was employed by Tableland Services of Somerset as a Community Organizer for 17 years. While in that position she was one of a committee of four who purchased the land where the Meyersdale Townhouses were constructed for use by senior citizens, and then managed those townhouses for 22 years. Lillian was also instrumental in the purchase of the property on North Street where the Senior Citizens Center now stands. She volunteered in the reception area of the Meyersdale Community Hospital for many years and was a volunteer driver with the Somerset County Office of the Aging for 12 years. A member of the Meyersdale Borough Council for two terms. She also served in various other volunteer capacities. A member of SS. Philip and James Catholic Church since moving to Meyersdale. Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Price Funeral Home Meyersdale. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at SS. Philip and James Catholic Church Meyersdale, with Rev. James M. Dugan celebrant. Committal will follow at SS Philip and James Cemetery Meyersdale. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Stray No More, 333 W. Garrett St., Somerset, Pa. 15501 or "In Touch" Hospice, 1590 N. Center Ave. Suite 111, Somerset, Pa. 15501.
