Shumaker, 75, of 201 College Ave., Greenville, Pa., died at 7:25 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, 1983, in Greenville Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Meyersdale on July 20, 1907, and was a son of Franklin and Nora Housel Shumaker. He married Laurette May Simpson on June 1, 1931, who survives. He was a graduate of Meyersdale High School, Franklin and Marshall Academy, Franklin and Marshall College and Lancaster Theological Seminary. In 1955, he received an honorary doctorate of divinity degree from Franklin and Marshall College. He had served as pastor of St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church, Sharon; First Church, Lebanon; and was pastor of Zion's Reformed Church, Greenville, from 1943 to 1962, when he became first president of Penn West Conference, United Church of Christ. He held this position until 1968. At the time of his death, he was pastor of St. Paul Homes for the Aged, Greenville, a position he had held since 1971. He was a former member of the board of directors and first vice president of St. Paul Homes. He was a member of the Thiel College Community Administrative Board; past president, Greenville Community Chest; past president, Greenville Kiwanis Club, receiving the distinguished service award from Kiwanis International in 1971. He was a past member of the Greenville Area Public Library Board, on the advisory board of the Salvation Army and dean of the Greenville Leadership Training School. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Carole J., wife of Franklynn Stephenson, Avon, N.Y.; and Linda J., wife of Dr. Robert G. Hayes, South Bend, Ind.; a brother, Robert Shumaker, Meyersdale, and eight grandchildren. Friends were received at William K. Baird Funeral Home. Services were held in the chapel at Zion's Reformed United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Robert K. Nace, D.D.; Dr. Paul L. Westcoat Jr., conference minister of Penn West Conference; and Rev. L.
